H.E. Ambassador Martin Kimani is Kenya’s Permanent Representative and Head of Mission to UNON, UNEP and UN-Habitat. Prior to his appointment, he was the Director of the IGAD Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN) in in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia working to prevent and mitigate violent cross-border conflict in the Horn of Africa. He has held senior positions at the Atlantic Council of the United States in Washington DC; was the first Senior Counter Terrorism Advisor to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD); led the Africa Division of Exclusive Analysis in London providing insurers and corporates with specialist intelligence forecasts on commercially political and violent risks in Africa; taught future commanders and staff officers of UK and allied Armed Services at the Joint Services Command and Staff College in Shrivenham; and was a strategist in emerging market currencies and interest rates at hedge fund FX Concepts in New York City. Ambassador Kimani holds an MA and PhD in War Studies from King’s College of the University of London, and a BA in philosophy from the University of New Hampshire in the US. He is a Fellow of the African Leadership Initiative and the Aspen Global Leadership Program. He was the 2013 Distinguished African Visiting Fellow at the South African Institute of International Affairs.
